John Cage lived in Chicago for a very brief period in 1942. During that time, he was presented in concert at the Arts Club of Chicago, where he brought his motley band of performers and even more motley collection of percussion instruments. The Arts Club has a storied history of support for the avant garde and contemporary art, having presented early exhibitions of Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, and this presentation of Cage's music at a very early stage in the composer's career.
Third Coast Percussion's brings this concert back to life over 70 years later with a program featuring works from the original concert plus other works by Cage and his contemporaries.
