12 new works exploring stories that connect us all

Archetypes

GRAMMY® Award-winning Third Coast Percussion joins celebrated guitarist Sérgio Assad and vibrant composer and performer Clarice Assad for a new album of collaboratively composed works, featuring twelve musical portraits of timeless character types that appear in stories, legends, and myths throughout the world.

Archetypes are ancient, universal patterns of human behavior that are found in storytelling, mythology, and our daily interactions with one another. With all that separates us from one another — distances that are geographic, ideological, cultural, temporal — the commonalities that transcend these barriers can offer a profound sense of comfort and optimism.

Expressing themselves through guitar, voice, piano, and a battery of percussion instruments, the ensemble draws inspiration from these foundational aspects of the human experience, as well as an array of musical traditions, taking the audience on a far-reaching musical journey grounded in familiar stories.
