Performance Penthouse, Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts

Free and open to the public.

This Symposium brings together the entire community of the University of Chicago’s Department of Music, featuring graduate students and faculty from each of the four sub-disciplines within the department. Attendance at the event will be open to all, including undergraduate classes. The central question of this symposium aims to unpack our relationship with ritual, material, and sound. The Symposium falls during a week-long residency by Third Coast Percussion, which includes a premiere of Resounding Earth for percussion quartet by Augusta Read Thomas, as well as a Colloquium by Ethnomusicologist Deborah Wong.
