GRAMMY® Award-winning Chicago ensemble Third Coast Percussion presents the U.S. premiere of its arrangements of Aguas da Amazonia by renowned American composer Philip Glass.
Each year, Third Coast Percussion presents 4-5 concerts of percussion music in their hometown of Chicago. In concert halls, theaters, and art galleries, the ensemble joins with world-renowned performers for programs that include premieres of new works for percussion alongside modern classic percussion music.
Inspired by a visit to Brazil, each movement of the suite vividly represents the unique character and majesty of various waterways in the Amazon region. The program is rounded out by a performance of Perpetulum, Glass’ first-ever piece for percussion ensemble which was commissioned by Third Coast Percussion in 2018 and premiered to a sold out crowd at the Chicago Humanities Festival that year.
